Bangkok lgbtq+ film festival
In a historic year where Thailand has passed the Marriage Equality Act, Baturu – an organization dedicated to promoting equality through art and media, and connecting LGBTQ+ creators across diverse countries and regions worldwide – is proud to announce the return of the Bangkok LGBTQ+ Film Festival. Running from June 27 to July 6, 2025, the festival aims to reinforce Thailand's role as a leader in gender equality rights in Asia and celebrate diversity through the powerful medium of film.
The festival will feature over 15 LGBTQ+ films carefully curated from both Western and Eastern hemispheres, including works from New Zealand, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, the Philippines, and Nepal. Beyond film screenings, the event will host panel discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities with LGBTQ+ directors and activists from various countries.
Special film screenings will take place at the Goethe-Institut Thailand and the Jim Thompson House Art Center. These venues will also host panel discussions with international directors and producers, as well as various workshops. To expand accessibility, the festival will include off-site screenings in Chiang Mai at Sapphic Riot by the Sapphic Pride group, and at Some Space Gallery, which will feature masterclasses and panel discussions on art, culture, and LGBTQ+ rights in both Thailand and abroad.
Li Dan, Director of the Bangkok LGBTQ+ Film Festival, stated that the festival aims to be a platform for emerging LGBTQ+ filmmakers in Asia, expanding the space for authentic storytelling from the diverse gender community. It also seeks to build regional collaborations by creating a platform that connects creators, artists, funders, and those interested in producing work to support the diverse gender community. This includes the direct exchange of skills and resources with diverse gender creative communities through collaborations with organizations, partners, and creators within their network.
