Baturu Film Lab #1

Baturu is proud to announce the launch of the Baturu Film Workshop, an intensive program designed to empower women and gender-diverse directors, producers, filmmakers, and creatives. This initiative offers participants the chance to gain essential filmmaking knowledge, build meaningful collaborations, and access resources to produce works that reflect their unique perspectives and serve their communities.

The inaugural edition of the workshop is titled: Storymapping Consciousness: A Workshop in Documentary Creation This immersive program will take participants deep into the art and craft of documentary filmmaking. Through guided sessions, participants will explore storytelling techniques, narrative mapping, and production strategies, with a strong emphasis on creating work rooted in personal vision and social relevance.

The workshop will be led by Nefise Özkal Lorentzen, a renowned Turkish-Norwegian writer, director, and professor whose powerful documentaries have been featured at some of the world’s most prestigious festivals, including IDFA, Hot Docs, and CPH:DOX. Her work has also received a nomination for the History Makers Award in New York, cementing her position as one of the most influential voices in contemporary documentary cinema.

By centering women and gender-diverse creators, the Baturu Film Workshop seeks to address gaps in access, visibility, and representation in the film industry. It is more than a training program — it’s a space for creators to share their stories, connect with peers, and develop projects that speak directly to their audiences and communities.
